Maggie Marton, Writing About Pets with Passion

What if your career let you pet dogs and scritch cats all day—then write about it? For Maggie Marton, that’s not a dream—it’s real life! As a freelance writer and author specializing in the pet industry for over 15 years, Maggie has turned her love for animals into a thriving career. She’s also the voice behind Oh My Dog!, a beloved pet blog featured in The New York Times, Animal Wellness, and Dog Fancy.

From Passion Project to Career

Sometimes, life-changing opportunities come in the most unexpected ways. Back in 2009, Maggie worked a steady job she didn’t love while her two dogs kept life interesting at home. Needing a creative outlet, she started blogging about her pets’ antics. A year later, she attended a pet blogging conference that changed everything. “I met an editor of a trade publication that covered the pet industry. She hired me on the spot to write a couple columns a month,” Maggie shared. From that moment, her freelance career took off, covering everything from pet industry trends to veterinary medicine.

Introversion in a Social Industry

Many people assume writing is the perfect introvert job—just you, your thoughts, and a laptop. But Maggie quickly learned that freelance writing meant interviewing people, pitching editors, and attending bustling trade shows. “I had to find workarounds for my introverted tendencies. Mostly it means building in downtime before and after travel and giving myself quiet time to recharge in between people-heavy events,” she explained. Her proactive approach to managing energy helps her stay passionate about her work.

Being introverted is nothing to fix. In fact, it’s a superpower.

Owning Introversion as a Strength

Society often pushes introverts to “fix” themselves or “come out of their shells,” but Maggie sees things differently. “Being introverted is nothing to fix. In fact, it’s a superpower. We tend to be kind, empathetic leaders who stand behind our values—even if we do so quietly,” she said. For Maggie, embracing her introverted nature has strengthened her career and life.

Living Her Dream Life

Maggie is living her dream life surrounded by two daughters, a house full of animals, and her supportive husband. But her biggest milestone is just around the corner: her traditionally published book FOR THE LOVE OF DOGS, set to hit shelves in 2025 through Regalo Press. “Now, I just can’t wait for everyone to read it!” she shared with excitement.

What It Means to Be an Introverted DreamHer

Being an Introverted DreamHer means embracing who you are while boldly pursuing your goals—just like Maggie has. It’s about using introversion as a strength, showing up authentically, and building a meaningful life on your terms.
