When Kristy Howard launched her freelance business at the start of 2025, it may have looked like a bold new beginning. But in many ways, it was simply the moment she finally said yes to what had been right in front of her all along.
Kristy is a freelance proofreader and writer who works with lifestyle brands, Christian publishers, and small businesses to bring their words to life. Whether sheโs crafting emails, polishing devotionals, or writing blog posts, her gift lies in helping others communicate with clarity and heart.
โMy sweet spot is polishing or bringing to life a clientโs ideas so their message emotionally resonates,โ she shares.
Her journey into entrepreneurship wasnโt straightforward. Like many introverted creatives, Kristy dabbled in several side hustles like direct sales, virtual assistance, even brand design before realizing her true zone of genius had been waiting patiently all along. โI had a beautiful lifestyle blog with dozens of professionally written articles, and I kept wondering, โWhat can I do to make money from home?โโ she recalls. The answer, it turns out, had been at her fingertips for over a decade.
It took a challenging season, her husbandโs unexpected job loss and months of financial uncertainty, for Kristy to finally connect the dots. โThat experience was scary,โ she says, โand I realized it was my turn to stop playing with my skills and start earning real income.โ With a renewed sense of purpose, she earned her proofreading certification and turned her blog into a professional portfolio. The rest, as they say, is history.
Iโm observant, reserved and really in tune with subtle details that a lot of people overlook.
As an introvert, Kristy sees her quiet nature as a strength in her work. โIโm observant, reserved, and really in tune with subtle details that a lot of people overlook,โ she says. That sensitivity helps her match brand voices and pick up on nuances that others might miss.
But sheโs also had to push herself, especially when it comes to networking or conducting client interviews. โThose things donโt come easy, but Iโve grown a lot, and Iโm proud of myself for doing the hard things.โ
When asked about her dream life, Kristy doesnโt wish for anything flashy, just alignment. โIโd love to partner with a few highly aligned clients so the work always feels like a creative outflow, not a grind.โ Her dream includes the freedom to travel and visit her daughters, one serving overseas in the Army and the other studying musical theatre in New York. โOptions and freedom are key,โ she says. โFreedom to do the work I love in the margin that I currently have, and options for living and giving generously.โ
Kristyโs story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, our calling isnโt something new. Itโs something weโve been doing all along. We just need to zoom out, listen in, and finally trust ourselves enough to build from there.
