Emily Jane Lee: Designing a Smarter Way to Do Business

Emily Jane Lee didnโ€™t start out planning to be a web designer. In fact, her first creative path was photography. But as life often does, it nudged her in a new direction. One that turned out to be a perfect fit.

Today, Emily runs By Emily Jane, a website strategy and design studio that helps wedding service providers stand out and attract clients who truly get them. โ€œI specialize in thoughtful, personality-filled websites,โ€ she says, โ€œespecially for creatives who want to connect with aligned clients in a sea of vendors.โ€

The road to entrepreneurship wasnโ€™t exactly what she imagined, though. As someone who lives with chronic migraines and back pain, the physically demanding work of photography proved unsustainable. But along the way, she built her own website and discovered a surprising new passion. โ€œI fell in love with it,โ€ she says. โ€œSo I pivoted. Now I get to work from my bed if I need to. I can enjoy the flexibility and quiet alone time that, honestly, is an introvertโ€™s dream.โ€

That introversion has shaped more than her workday. Itโ€™s influenced the very structure of her business. While most people in her industry rely on video calls for networking, sales, and client check-ins, Emily realized those interactions left her drained and anxious. So, she gave herself permission to do things differently.

โ€œI had to reduce calls to an absolute minimum to save my sanity and energy,โ€ she shares. โ€œNow I work about 80% asynchronously, and my ideal clients love it, too.โ€ Itโ€™s not just more manageable for her. Itโ€™s also refreshing for clients who are tired of endless Zooms and appreciate the breathing room she builds into the process.

If you arenโ€™t operating at your best from a place of rest, peace, and health, your business canโ€™t thrive.

One of the most powerful lessons Emily has learned is that taking care of herself isnโ€™t just good for her. Itโ€™s also essential for her business. โ€œYou are the golden goose,โ€ she says. โ€œIf you arenโ€™t operating at your best from a place of rest, peace, and health, your business canโ€™t thrive.โ€ She encourages others to make the changes they need, even if it means doing things in ways that feel a little unconventional.

Emily is well on her way to her dream life. โ€œSpacious days, creative projects, a cozy home with a dog or two, time to rest without guilt, and a community of good friends,โ€ she says. โ€œSlow living all the way, baby!โ€

Emily Jane Lee is proof that success doesnโ€™t have to come with hustle or noise. Sometimes, it looks like building a business that works with your energy, not against it while creating beauty, connection, and calm along the way.
