Rachel Pascal: Medical Writer Crafting Impactful Change

Meet Rachel Pascal, a UK-based freelance health and medical writer who’s redefining work-life balance while making a difference in public health. Rachel’s journey from agency life to running her own business is an inspiring reminder that it’s possible to build a career that adapts to your life.

From Agency Life to Freelance Freedom

After 10 years in a healthcare marketing agency, Rachel decided to take the leap into freelancing. “I loved what I did, but I wanted more control over my time and the chance to spend more time with my two little boys,” she shared.

Today, she writes everything from patient advocacy meeting reports to educational materials, combining variety with meaningful impact. “The goal is to help improve patient outcomes and public health education.”

Harnessing Introversion as a Strength

As an introvert, Rachel has found that freelancing is a perfect match for her personality. “Medical writing requires a lot of time being alone, deep focus, good observational skills, and inherent motivation. Remote work is perfectly suited for my preference for spending more time alone,” she explained. However, Rachel has also learned the importance of getting out and about to maintain balance.

Her ability to work independently and stay self-motivated has been key to her success, proving that introversion can be a major asset in the right career.

I’ve been able to build a career that adapts to the life I want to have and not the other way around.

Building a Life You Love

Rachel’s biggest lesson is that work shouldn’t compromise your life. “In becoming a freelance medical writer, I’ve been able to build a career that adapts to the life I want to have and not the other way around,” she said. It’s a powerful reminder that we all have the ability to create a career that aligns with our values and priorities.

Living the Dream

Rachel describes her current life as exactly what she needs right now. “I have control over my day-to-day life. I get to be present to watch my children grow up, and I spend my time doing work that’s fulfilling and meaningful to me,” she said.

While there’s always room for improvement like setting better boundaries or dreaming of future travels, she’s grateful for the life she’s built.
