When Susanne Alexander remarried in 1999, she had no idea it would lead to a whole new calling, one that would touch the lives of couples around the world.
At the time, she was working as a freelance business journalist for Newsweek and her husband was in manufacturing sales. But as friends around them began ending short-term marriages, the couple started asking deeper questions. โWe decided there was a problem we might be able to do something about,โ Susanne recalls.
So they wrote a marriage preparation workbook tailored to members of the Bahaโiย Faith. It sold well. So well, in fact, that by 2004 Susanne shifted her focus entirely to relationship and marriage education.
That shift became Marriage Transformation, the business sheโs led with heart and intention ever since. With more than 30 books written and countless individuals and couples supported, Susanne has built a career not only from experience and training, but from a deep passion for helping people grow in love. โI love seeing individuals and couples transform their lives through the lightbulb moments that occur when we work together,โ she says.
Being an introvert is a great benefit when itโs time for me to hide in my office and write a new book.
As an introvert, Susanne sees her quiet nature as a superpower especially when it comes to the reflective and creative side of her work. โBeing an introvert is a great benefit when itโs time for me to hide in my office and write a new book,โ she explains. โI donโt need to interrupt the flow to go seek company.โ That comfort in solitude has helped her create a massive body of work while still showing up with warmth and clarity in her Zoom coaching sessions and online courses.
Large conferences and big social gatherings, on the other hand? Not her favorite. โI become tired when in large groups for an extended amount of time,โ she admits. But over time, sheโs found her own way to navigate those situations, especially when the old belief that โI donโt belongโ starts to creep in.
A turning point came with the help of a coach, who encouraged her to reframe those anxious moments. Now, whenever Susanne walks into a room, she reminds herself of a new truth: โIโm transformational love.โ Those three words shift her energy completely. โIt has me shaking hands, introducing myself, being friendly, and inviting other people to laugh and converse with me,โ she shares.
These days, Susanne is living her dream life with a new husband in a peaceful lakefront home in Tennessee. She has a cozy office, meaningful work that she never wants to retire from, and a brand-new book, Growing Our Unity, ready to support more couples on their journey.
โMy life is good,โ she says. And itโs easy to see why. Sheโs built a business and a life around love, reflection, and transformation on her own beautifully introverted terms.
