Trina Read: Rewriting the Rules of Sex Ed for Women

Trina Read has spent over 25 years doing the kind of work most people shy away from. And she’s doing it with heart, humor, and a whole lot of expertise.

As a Canadian sexologist, Trina helps women in long-term relationships reconnect with themselves and their partners after the honeymoon stage fades. โ€œIโ€™m an educator, not a counselor or therapist,โ€ she explains. โ€œSo I have to promote myself. Thatโ€™s just part of the job.โ€

And promote herself she has with over 1,000 media interviews worldwide, a bestselling book, and an international speaking career thatโ€™s earned her awards and recognition.

But getting here wasnโ€™t easy.

โ€œWhen I started, there was a massive knowledge gap,โ€ Trina recalls. โ€œVery few people were willing to teach women in long-term relationships about sex education.โ€ That gap was exactly what drove her to step up. But building trust in a field that social media often censors takes time, stamina, and a thick skin. โ€œItโ€™s challenging,โ€ she says, โ€œbut it matters.โ€

I didnโ€™t network or attend conferences, and my business suffered because of it.

Trina is also an introvert, something that shaped her business in both empowering and limiting ways. During the pandemic, she found comfort in solitude, diving into her writing and emerging with a #1 award-winning fiction and nonfiction book. But that season also reinforced some isolating habits. โ€œI didnโ€™t network or attend conferences, and my business suffered because of it,โ€ she admits. Now, sheโ€™s challenging herself to show up again not just for visibility, but for her own well-being.

One of her biggest lessons is that you donโ€™t have to bare your soul to be relatable. โ€œI thought because I was the face of my brand, I had to overshare every detail of my life,โ€ she says. Over time, she realized that people didnโ€™t want to see her, they wanted to see themselves in her content. โ€œI shifted from first-person to third-person storytelling. Itโ€™s more comfortable for me, and it connects better with my audience.โ€

Trinaโ€™s well on her way to her dream life. She envisions a creative future filled with self-help fiction like the book sheโ€™s currently working on, where four women attend the Taboo Sex Show and grow their sexual self-confidence along the way. She also dreams of producing mini-documentaries that explore sexuality in real, empowering ways whether itโ€™s working with a Tantric coach or experiencing a boudoir photoshoot.

Trina Readโ€™s story is proof that you donโ€™t have to be loud to make waves. You just have to be bold enough to tell the truth, committed enough to keep going, and brave enough to say: โ€œThis matters and Iโ€™m going to talk about it.โ€
